I have given fear a lot of thought recently. That’s because I can taste fear, I know when it’s around, hanging out and trying to pull my strings.
Fear robs you.
Fear picks your own pocket.
Fear is a vampire and puppet master rolled into one.
The thing about this vampire? You choose to invite it to your neck and drain your life.
Fear whispers to you in the space of your mind. Fear is invisible. But how to overcome an invisible foe?
Recent blogosphere and thought leader discussion around this topic places the “lizard brain” front and center as the likely culprit giving rise to fear. The lizard brain meaning the more primitive, fight or flight functions of your noodle. It supposedly kicks in and is responsible for self doubt, avoiding risk at all costs. I don’t know, maybe the big thinkers are right. As for me, I think there is something more sinister going on up in the puppet loft.
Oh, I don’t pooh pooh the idea of the lizard brain, but if fear was simply a matter of, well, gray matter, then I would think by this stage in the evolutionary ball game and with all of the great thinkers who have ever think’d about this topic (Plato, Aristotle, Homer, and up through the present), we would have this problem licked.
Fear hides. It is a shape shifter.
Fear will elude your every effort to root it out, unmask it, and coax it out into the light. Fear is like a cockroach, scattering just when you have the illuminating “A HA!” moment that something is pulling your strings.
Feel the fear.
Feeling the fear is great and a good first step, but what the heck do you do with it once you have snuggled up to it? Kick it in the ass? Use your shiny new NLP talk track? Plug your ears and go “la la la la la la”? Pray? Yes.
You must understand that fear must be: 1) Acknowledged and 2)Dealt with, managed.
You need to do what you need to do so you can move forward with your life.
Fear will shackle you, chain you to the wall…if YOU will permit it.
If you are stuck in your life and feel shackled, chained, and have run out of hopes and dreams, fear is up in the loft pulling your strings. Fear has been robbing you and you have abdicated your own throne.
It’s time to step up.
It’s tough love time.
There are people out there counting on you to bring your “A” game. I need you! Your community needs you! The globe needs you! You need you!
We need more of the REAL you, not a limp puppet.
It’s time to move forward, don’t you think?
It’s time to look up in the puppet loft…thumb your nose…and cut the strings!
Facing fear and dealing with it becomes easier when you know what you stand for and who you live for.
